Audrey Fix

Looking for an old fashioned chick flick, that inspires the modern day woman in each of us? What better than a fix of Audrey Hepburn ruling the roost of the New York social life - Breakfast at Tiffany's!

The film represents many aspects of a woman's personality, and a driven desire to live our dreams. Featuring the elegant Tiffany and Co., any girls heart is set to drop well before George Peppard even hits  the screen. The film, made in 1961 is build the foundations for any girls dreams and aspirations of one day becoming a glamorous New Yorker.

Recycle and Re-use!!

This morning on my way home from a walk i was beginning to have a quick look at the rubbish piles lining the streets ready for the community clean up. Twice a year, the local council organises the garbage trucks to come around to every street in the area and collect any rubbish for free! Any items can be placed in the rubbish piles, except for paints and electrical such as TVs and computers (as we have a separate clean up day for those items). So i turned in to my street and over the weekend the small piles of garbage bags grew to a massive pile of old couches, TV cabinets, pots, bar stools,  curtains, bean bags, suitcases and so much more! Having initially ignored all these junk piles, to my dismay i came across two items that i just had to have! I managed to find an old tailors mannequin and a wooden kids chair, both in a beautiful aquamarine blue, suited perfectly to my room!

I started by giving both of the items a good clean, using a brush, a vacuum and a good bit of elbow grease. I then put them in to place in my bedroom, where i will be using the mannequin as a small garment holder for necklaces, brooches, and scarves and the the chair as a lounge-side table!

I also found a few wooden pallets to use for the bed i will be making, its a work in progress but i will be sure to post up some photos of the finished product and a few photos from along the way! If you would like to know more about great uses for wooden pallets one of my older entries can help you with that :)
So instead of going out and buying yourself a brand new piece of furniture be sure to check the charity stores such as 'Vinnies' or 'The Salvation Army' or a local tip shop because it sure can help you save some money and the process fixing something old is not only a self achievement but its helping the environment!

smile!

Have you ever taken out a picture from when you were little and just stared at it, remembering even the tiniest details of that day? In that one second when the shutter opens and a stain is left on a memory card or a roll of film is one of the most unforgettable moments in your life whether you know it or not, because there will always be that one photo to look back on and remember even the smallest details of that day - whether it be what you did after the photo was taken or what you had for dinner that night, or a simple joke but the most important thing is, you remember you. You have to remember the person in the photo no matter what because that one day when you are looking back on it, just knowing how much you have grown can give you the courage to keep going and see who you will turn out to be and to just keep going to make sure there is another picture.
Not only is a picture worth a thousand words, it's worth a thousand memories and it's those memories mean a thousand words.

"Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile"

PRODUCT REVIEW: Fujifilm Instax 210!

Fujifilm have released a new range of instant film cameras, very similar to the classic polaroids that everyone loves!
I have recently bought one of these fujifilm cameras and love it!! It enables you to:
- lighten or darken the picture, depending on the time of day
- change the focus from setting '0.9-3m' or '3m-more'
- turn the flash off and on!
The photo is taken on the instant film, but in a landscape format, which makes it easier to fit all your friends in the one photo and capture more of the subject.
Having previously been using a polaroid instant camera, i am enjoying my new one a lot more as the film is  so much cheaper and easier to buy! This camera is a tiny bit expensive but it is definitely worth it!!
If any of you want to buy one of these cameras or already have one post a comment and tell me what you think of it :)

I have recently been sucked in to the life of EMILY IRIS and her family. This enchanting, powerful book is set in the 60's in Johannesburg, where the Iris family welcome a family of 'Gypsie' travellers from Australia in to their home. Not knowing what to think of the family, an early warning from the Iris' trusty night-guard Buza, a native African, is ignored. The adventures of Emily and her sister Sarah untangle throughout the book and with a surprise ending in store, the book is hard to put down.
Written in the perspective of the 12 year-old, the writing was an easy read and extremely tense and enjoyable!
I wont do a full book review and expose the story, otherwise it might ruin the story!
I rate this book - ☆ out of 5 stars!

learning to drive.

In life, we come to many stop signs. We take our foot of the accelerator and come to a stop. We relax and wait. But many people are impatient and just want to speed of as soon as the light hits green, as though they are escaping from something but is it something to run from or hide from? is it something we should try to avoid?
Through our eyes we may see the shortest way to get somewhere is to take the short-cuts that have no traffic lights, no speed bumps and no round-abouts. In my opinion, everyone needs traffic lights, a place to stop, relax and think, even if it makes you that one minute late or it may ruin your plans completely they are there for a reason. Speed bumps, well... dont we all make mistakes and somehow manage to apologise and forgive? we learn from our mistakes and we learn from all the speed bumps in life whether they are good or bad. Everyone has their ups and downs and nothing better to put you in the place of someone else than a round-about... continuously turning, depending on those around you to make the right choices too - eventually escaping and on to the clear road again.
No matter how many turns you make and not matter how much you reverse, there will always be traffic lights, speed bumps and round-abouts in life. Whether you choose to abide by the road rules is up to you. But just remember, everything happens for a reason.

let the rain fall down

After a week full of stress, pain and confusion comes a long weekend of storms and continuous rain.
As much as rain and the clouds, thunder and lightning restricts you of doing wonderful things outside - for me its a chance to wash away all the pain and suffering and start fresh. For every time lightning strikes and every time the thunder roars and makes my windows rattle it makes me see that there are other things in life i should be afraid of but i wont be. I am afraid of what the future holds and afraid of what might be... but i have nothing to be afraid of. Life is something that many people wish they could give someone, life is something that many people have lost. We are taking life for granted, living each day knowing that there is a high chance of the next. But the day you are laying flat on your back, staring at the stars, making a wish knowing that it wont come true is the day you realise you have to fight for the things you want in life. You have to fight for your future, not afraid of what will happen tomorrow. Trust in fate and fortune that each day brings happiness and joy, and if those things are missing... look forward to tomorrow.

pure. impure.

Are people pure anymore? The type of purity by which one is them-self, not trying to impress others or be someone they aren't? We all start out as glasses of water, a simple and pure glass of water, but along the way we are mixed. Cordials and Spirits. Once mixed, it's hard to return. People always change and people always leave but sometimes they come back - sometimes, they are poured out and given the chance to become pure again, their glass is refilled.
Are you a glass of cordial? or is the bottle about to tip?...
Just think of the person you are and who you want to be before you take the next step, after all... What's better for you? Water or Cordial?

wake up!

Waking up is one of the hardest things to do. Whether it be literally waking up or realising something you have been hiding away, but there will always be the end of the track, with a no turning back sign and the only way to keep going is to wake up and face reality. Face the world around you. Be the person you set out to be. Because as much as you like dreaming - dreaming of a world with no violence and nothing to stop you from doing the things you love - there is a time and place for you to wake-up, open your eyes and fix any unsolved problems. Answer any un-asnwered questions. In the end, no matter how disoriented your life may be and no matter how badly things are going, it is up to you to change what is happening around you. Be the honest person you need to be, be honest to yourself and think realistically - because this is when your dreams will come true.

perfection is a lie.

When i walk in to a situation i try my best, i give it my all... thats the best i can do.... but for some people that isn't good enough. Trying to impress each and every person i meet is a task impossible, because no matter who i am or what i do.. there will always be someone that doesn't like what i'm doing or saying.
When a teacher demands the right answer, a coach demands perfection, the government demands a vote or a friend demands support, you are throwing yourself in to a pool of judgment, because the way you reply will be judged by others and not matter what you think is right, may be wrong to others.

"Shoes are like friends, you can never have toooooo many!"

"if you have nice feet, wear nice shoes! If you don't have nice feet, wear nice shoes!"

what to do with wooden pallets?

i found a whole big stack of FREE wooden pallets in a car park not too far from my house. So, I decided to bring them home, to attempt at transforming them in to some cool piece of furniture for my room. Recently i have been wanting a new bed, seeing as i have had the one i am currently using for around 5 years... i just need something different. I didn't want to have to spend massive amounts of money on a bed, that i would get sick of in another 5 years... So i did some research as to what you could use the wooden pallets for and surely enough people have made beds out of them....
These beds are so unique, quirky and plain at the same time! i love the whole recycled/reused look about them and the fact that if i painted the pallets white, no matter how many times i change the theme of my room, or my quilt cover it will still fit in, perfectly!

... and here are just some cute pictures of wooden pallet beds i found on the internet....
If all goes to plan, this will be one cheap and easily made bed!

only hope - mandy moore

No matter how angry or upset you may be, there is always someone out there looking forward to seeing your smile. So don't take your anger out on other people, just be the happy person you truly are because seeing someone upset is like seeing a year without rain, dry and painful.

"There's a song that's inside of my soul.
It's the one that I've tried to write over and over again
I'm awake in the infinite cold.
But you sing to me over and over and over again.

So, I lay my head back down.
And I lift my hands and pray
To be only yours, I pray, to be only yours
I know now you're my only hope.

Sing to me the song of the stars.
Of your galaxy dancing and laughing and laughing again.
When it feels like my dreams are so far
Sing to me of the plans that you have for me over again.

So I lay my head back down.
And I lift my hands and pray
To be only yours, I pray, to be only yours
I know now, you're my only hope.

I give you my destiny.
I'm giving you all of me.
I want your symphony, singing in all that I am
At the top of my lungs, I'm giving it back.

So I lay my head back down.
And I lift my hands and pray
To be only yours, I pray, to be only yours
I pray, to be only yours
I know now you're my only hope."

bad timing?

Stephen King once wrote: "Time takes it all, whether you want it to or not. Time takes it all, time bears it away, and in the end there is only darkness. Sometimes we find others in that darkness, and sometimes we lose them there again." Eventually there comes a time for all of us. whether it be to cry, to laugh, to sing or to dance, but the time is there to enjoy.
Are we taking things in life for granted?
Are we so sure that every morning we will wake up to the same happy faces and come home to those familiar smiles, that cupboard full of food and that house full of wonderful memories? people don't see the other six sides of the dice. the other six sides your life might land on.
and like a board game... situations change, the things around you change, but so do many things and you just have to live your life with or without the things that bring you down - because you never know, one day your whole world might turn upside down and you'll regret wasting your time doing the things that don't count. "live a life worthing of the calling you have received"
dont live to please others, live to please your self.

"it's up to you."

"If you could go back and change just one thing about your life, would you? and if you did, would that change make your life better? Or would that change ultimately break your heart? or break the heart of another? would you choose an entirely different path? or would you change just one thing? just one moment. one moment that you always wanted back.."

Your journey may be a trip to the park or realising that everything you once believed in was a lie. Your journey may be travelling or just simply thinking.
But a journey doesn't have to be physical, and you don't have to find the final destination. Life is a journey. Life is your journey.
You are born, with a purpose. You are born with feelings and emotions and even though your final destination is planned out... your journey is up to you. the outcome of your life is up to you, the decIsions and paths you take and make are all up to you and whether you choose to go down Dreaming Avenue or Reality Lane eventually life will grab you by the hand, or tap you on the shoulder and it will be over in a flash. Everything you decided, the impact you made, will be erased, but left in the minds of those who knew you. You become the name with no face, the ink smudge on a sympathy card. You become the name on a tombstone and the once a year memory. But what comes after that?....
