Recycle and Re-use!!

This morning on my way home from a walk i was beginning to have a quick look at the rubbish piles lining the streets ready for the community clean up. Twice a year, the local council organises the garbage trucks to come around to every street in the area and collect any rubbish for free! Any items can be placed in the rubbish piles, except for paints and electrical such as TVs and computers (as we have a separate clean up day for those items). So i turned in to my street and over the weekend the small piles of garbage bags grew to a massive pile of old couches, TV cabinets, pots, bar stools,  curtains, bean bags, suitcases and so much more! Having initially ignored all these junk piles, to my dismay i came across two items that i just had to have! I managed to find an old tailors mannequin and a wooden kids chair, both in a beautiful aquamarine blue, suited perfectly to my room!

I started by giving both of the items a good clean, using a brush, a vacuum and a good bit of elbow grease. I then put them in to place in my bedroom, where i will be using the mannequin as a small garment holder for necklaces, brooches, and scarves and the the chair as a lounge-side table!

I also found a few wooden pallets to use for the bed i will be making, its a work in progress but i will be sure to post up some photos of the finished product and a few photos from along the way! If you would like to know more about great uses for wooden pallets one of my older entries can help you with that :)
So instead of going out and buying yourself a brand new piece of furniture be sure to check the charity stores such as 'Vinnies' or 'The Salvation Army' or a local tip shop because it sure can help you save some money and the process fixing something old is not only a self achievement but its helping the environment!
